Chapter Recruitment
KA Today

With 136 chapters and 125,000 initiated members, Kappa Alpha continues to be a leader among fraternities. KA is positioned to meet the challenges of an ever-changing society. Campuses have refocused their missions to meet the demands of information age careers and fluctuating demographics. In the same spirit, KA has developed new programs to compliment the undergraduate experience. The Crusade is Kappa Alpha's new four-year total membership education program, focusing on scholarship, campus and community involvement, leadership development, and career-building skills. In addition, every new member receives an interactive CD-ROM detailing KA's history, policies and opportunities. It is these important and progressive programs that will move KA into the future.

Parent's Letter

Dear Parents:

As parents, you may have a variety of questions about the fraternity experience. We hope to provide you with useful information about the Kappa Alpha Order, one of the oldest and largest national fraternities.

Kappa Alpha's philosophy of gentlemanly conduct and its unending quest for excellence are directly attributed to the example set by Robert E. Lee, our spiritual founder. As president of the college where KA was founded, Lee personified the traits of gentility and chivalry. KA strives to translate these timeless values into the mainstream of colleges and universities across the nation.

Kappa Alpha has existed since 1865 and is a proven support network for young men as they make the transition from high school or a community college to a four-year institution.

The Order seeks out the positive character of its members and provides many opportunities for enrichment and development.

KA can better your son's college experience by providing scholastic support, hands-on experience in leadership, interaction with faculty and administrators, exposure to potential careers through educational programs and alumni, an opportunity for individual development through community service projects, and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Belonging to a fraternal organization is like nothing your son will ever experience. Living together, growing together, and learning about each other in a healthy environment is what Kappa Alpha Order is all about.

Sincerely,
Larry S. Wiese
Executive Director
Kappa Alpha Order National Office

Campus LeadshipLeaderShip

An "Order," is defined as, "...a society of persons united by a mutual distinction, the possession of something previously acquired." In other words, only those men who already possess the qualities of the gentleman are invited to membership. KA offers these proud individuals many opportunities to further develop their traits of leadership. Kappa Alpha's National Leadership Institute (NLI) is the second-oldest leadership school in the nation and hosts hundreds of undergraduates each year. NLI, in addition to regional and local leadership workshops, provide our members with many tools for success.

Community Service

Our members understand the importance of helping others as well as the rewards and personal development offered from performing community service and philanthropic activities. For fifteen years, the Muscular Dystrophy Association has been the national philanthropy of Kappa Alpha Order. KA is responsible for donating just over $1.5 million in support of muscular dystrophy research. In addition, our chapters have pledged to help those less fortunate than themselves. The brothers of Kappa Alpha are dedicated to serving our schools, communities and our country.

Costs

The costs of joining KA are only a small percentage of your son's college expenses. Beyond the national fees, each chapter is supported through dues charged to all members. Chapter fees vary depending on meal plans, housing, social expenses and programs. In most situations where the chapter provides housing, it is at the same price or slightly less than comparable university housing. National fees are as follows:

  • One time pledge fee: $80
  • One time initiation fee: $250
  • Annual insurance charge: $160*
  • Annual national dues: $85*
*National dues and insurance are waived during first semester

In addition, many chapter scholarship programs are reinforced with incentives from the Kappa Alpha Order Educational Foundation. The Foundation annually awards $75,000, more money than any other national fraternity, in scholarships to deserving students. Finally, our national scholarship manual, Brains, Books, and Brotherhood provides quality programs to assist in our members' pursuit of academic excellence in the university classroom Delta Upsilon Chapter was chartered at UT-Martin in 1976 and has continued over a 25 year tradition of excellence unsurpassed by any other fraternity. Position On Hazing

Hazing and all activities associated with hazing are strictly forbidden in our fraternity. Hazing is defined as any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment, or ridicule.
